Terms of use

Last updated 31 August 2026. Plain language, and we mean it literally.

Using the guides

Guides are licensed to you personally, for listening. You may not re-publish, resell, or use them as commercial tour content without a written agreement — partner licensing exists for exactly that and is easy to arrange.

You may not scrape, bulk-download, or redistribute the audio or text, and you may not use it to train a model. Reading the site normally is fine; systematically copying it is not.

This is information, not safety advice

Guides describe public places. They are not safety advice, navigation instructions, or a substitute for your own judgement. Opening hours change, tides come in, trails close, neighbourhoods differ at night. Check current conditions before you go.

**Do not listen while doing anything that needs your attention.** Crossing roads, cycling and driving need your ears. Stop walking to listen if the place is busy.

We make a genuine effort to be accurate and every factual claim in a guide is tied to a source. We still get things wrong sometimes. Tell us and we correct it — but you use the information at your own risk.

Purchases, credits and refunds

Guides, packs and passes you buy outright remain available in your account. X-Credits do not expire and are **not redeemable for cash**. Once credits are redeemed into an account they stay with that account and cannot be transferred to another one.

Prices are in US dollars and may change for new purchases; a change never affects something you already own. Payments are processed by Stripe; card details never reach our servers.

Refunds are covered in detail at /refunds/. In short: unused credits are refunded in full, and anything that was not what we described is refunded in full.

Your account

You are responsible for what happens under your account. Do not share your sign-in. Tell us if you think someone else has access.

We may suspend or close an account that is being used to redistribute our content, to abuse the referral system, to charge back purchases in bad faith, or in a way that harms other users. Where we close an account, unused credits are refunded unless the account was used fraudulently.

You can delete your account at any time. See /privacy/ for what happens to your data.

Contributions

If you submit a place, a script or a voice recording, you confirm it is yours to submit and you grant us a non-exclusive licence to publish it and to narrate it. You keep authorship credit and you earn from the listen-minute pool while it is live. You can ask us to take it down.

Do not submit anything you do not have the rights to. If a rights holder contacts us about something you submitted, we remove it and tell you.

What we do not promise

The service is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available without interruption, that audio will play on every device, or that every detail is current. We do not promise that a guide will suit your taste — that is what the refund policy is for.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — a missed booking, a trip that did not go as planned, time lost. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or US$100 if you paid us nothing.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Third-party links

Booking links go to third-party travel sites and we earn a commission on some of them — see /partners/#disclosure. Those sites have their own terms and prices. We are not a party to what you buy there and we cannot resolve a dispute about it, though we do want to hear if a link sends you somewhere wrong.

Changes, law and disputes

We update these terms when the service changes. The date at the top is the last change. If a change materially reduces what you already paid for, we will tell you before it takes effect.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, and disputes go to the courts there — except where consumer law in your country of residence gives you the right to use your local courts, which it may.

Before anything formal: write to [email protected]. Most things are a misunderstanding and get fixed the same week.
