One Day in New York City — The Perfect Itinerary

New York City in one day: the sights, the food, the neighborhoods, and the view at the end of the day. This is how to see New York properly — with G20X audio guides to walk you through every stop.

8am — Breakfast in the Lower East Side

Start with a bagel at Russ & Daughters (since 1914): the lox and cream cheese is the real New York article. If you want something faster, grab a bacon-egg-and-cheese from any bodega — they are all good at 8am. Walk north along the East River, past the Williamsburg Bridge, toward the Staten Island Ferry terminal.

9:30am — Statue of Liberty from the Staten Island Ferry (free)

The best free view in New York. The ferry runs every 30–60 minutes from Whitehall Terminal in Lower Manhattan. You get within 30 feet of the Statue, the Manhattan skyline behind her, and zero admission fee. Bring coffee. Do not waste $30 on the tourist cruise.

11am — 9/11 Memorial and One World Observatory

Walk through the 9/11 Memorial — two reflecting pools where the towers stood, 184 identically sized skylights. Then take the elevator 102 floors up to One World Observatory. On a clear day the view stretches five states. Book a timed entry slot before you go.

1pm — Lunch in Tribeca

The Dutch or Locanda Verde: both consistently excellent. For something faster, Little Park does a great lunch bowl. Walk north through SoHo — this is the walkable city at its best.

3pm — The High Line and Hudson Yards

The High Line is a 1.45-mile elevated park on a decommissioned freight rail line. Enter at Gansevoort Street and walk north. The planters, the wildflowers, the art installations — it is genuinely one of the best public spaces in any city in the world. End at Vessel at Hudson Yards, if you have the energy to climb it.

5pm — Summit One Vanderbilt or Top of the Rock

Book Summit One Vanderbilt (2021) for the mirror rooms and 91st-floor views. Alternatively, Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center gives you the Empire State Building in the frame. Both are worth it. Sunset timing is everything.

8pm — Dinner in Midtown or the West Village

For New York Italian: Carbone (Tribeca, reservation required). For something casual: Joe's Pizza (Greenwich Village, since 1975). Walk off dinner through the West Village — the brownstones, the bars, the streetlights. This is the New York that film keeps trying to capture.

Walk off the meal with an audio guide

Every neighborhood has a walking route with stories. Free previews on every guide.
